The relaxed version of the Fez to Marrakech desert crossing. Shorter driving days leave time for the peace of Merzouga, a 4×4 desert route with Gnawa music in Khamlia and visits to nomads, and a night in a Berber tent among the dunes. The return passes through Rissani’s great souk, the Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou before the Tizi n’Tichka pass.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt
After breakfast, depart for Ifrane and Midelt. You stop in the Azrou cedar forest to see the monkeys, then continue through the Middle Atlas mountains to Midelt. Dinner at your hotel.
Overnight: Midelt
Day 2: Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga
After breakfast, drive to Merzouga via Erfoud. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the peace of the desert. Dinner at a hotel near the dunes.

Day 3: Merzouga – 4×4 desert route – Camel ride – Night in the desert
After breakfast, set off on a 4×4 desert route through several villages, including Khamlia, where you stop to enjoy Gnawa music. You then visit desert nomads in their tents and discover their way of life. In the afternoon, mount your camel to reach a Berber tent camp in the middle of the dunes.
Overnight: Merzouga – Berber tent camp
Day 4: Erg Chebbi – Rissani – Todra Gorge
Get up early to climb a dune and watch the sunrise, then ride your camel back to the hotel for breakfast. Drive to the Todra Gorge via Rissani, stopping to visit its traditional souk, considered the largest in southern Morocco. Dinner at your hotel in the Todra Gorge.
Overnight: Todra Gorge
Day 5: Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, walk through the gorge before continuing to the Dades Valley, the Valley of Roses and Skoura. Arrival in Ouarzazate for dinner.
Overnight: Ouarzazate
Day 6: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then continue to Marrakech over the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka pass, passing many Berber villages. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon and check-in at your riad.
