Tour overview
A quieter alternative to the classic Merzouga route. From Marrakech you cross the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, follow a track through the Draa Valley to Zagora for a camel ride and a night in a nomad tent, then continue past Lake Maider and Ramlia to the remote dunes of Ouzina, where you stay two nights. The return passes Rissani, the Tafilalet palm grove, the Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley, the Valley of Roses and Skoura.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Leave Marrakech for Ouarzazate over the High Atlas, passing Berber villages on the way to the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, once a stop for caravans crossing the Sahara. Arrival in Ouarzazate for dinner.
Overnight: Ouarzazate
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Agdz – Draa Valley – Zagora
After breakfast, visit the Taourirt kasbah, then head for Zagora over the Kissane mountain. In the Draa Valley you follow a track through Berber villages all the way to Zagora, where camels take you to your camp for the night. Dinner in camp.
Overnight: Zagora – nomad tent
Day 3: Zagora – Lake Maider – Ramlia – Ouzina
Get up early to see the sunrise over the dunes, then ride back to the hotel. Continue to Ouzina by way of Lake Maider and Ramlia, meeting nomads along the way. Dinner at a local hotel.
Overnight: Ouzina
Day 4: Ouzina
After breakfast, walk 2 km to visit the village of Ouzina. After the visit and lunch, return to your hotel for dinner.
Overnight: Ouzina
Day 5: Ouzina – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
After breakfast, depart for Rissani via Erfoud and the Tafilalet palm grove. Visit the Todra Gorge, then end the day in the Dades Valley. Dinner at your hotel.
Overnight: Dades Valley
Day 6: Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Marrakech
After breakfast, drive to Kelaat M’Gouna to visit nomads living in caves, then continue through the Valley of Roses and the palm grove of Skoura and its kasbahs. Afternoon arrival in Marrakech and transfer to your hotel.
