departure in the morning from your riad to Merzouga where the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi are located, One of the 9 hour trip from Fez that takes you through the Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco, to the great oasis of Tafilalet, composed of many villages, palm trees and Kasbahs. We will make stops along the way in the alpine town of Ifrane and Azrou the cedar forest where the monkeys are, Midelt for lunch. The Ziz valley the panoramic and breathtaking view of the palm trees, the green valley in the middle of the Sahara. Then we will head towards the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. We continue deeper into the desert landscape, until the dunes appear in the middle of nowhere, hiking on camels to cross the dunes, overnight in a Berber tent bivouac.
DAY 2: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Ouarzazate
After sunrise in the dunes, camel ride back to the hotel at the dune line for breakfast and a shower. We head to Ouarzazate via the Todra gorges (300m high) canyons where you can quietly hike and have lunch in a local restaurant. We continue along the Thousand Kasbahs road, as there are huge kasbahs on both sides of the road. Some of these old fortified houses have been restored, but unfortunately many of them are ruins. We pass through the Dades Valley and the Pink City before we see the palm trees of Skoura where a large number of Kasbahs such as (Amrhidil) surrounded by gardens and palm trees. 45 km further we arrive in Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 3: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, we can enjoy a tour of the movie sets and studios located in Ouarzazate which is known as a Moroccan Hollywood. Then we will visit the World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben haddou as it was named by UNESCO in 1987. Ait Ben haddou it is a fortified village and it is the World Heritage Site which has been used as a backdrop for several films including Gladiature, Indiana Jones and Lawrence of Arabia. Enjoy a walk to explore the traditional Berber architecture in which the Kasbahs are built. We continue on our way to Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains and Tizi n’Tichka passes. Lunch break in the middle of the High Atlas Mountains. Return to your Riad, Hotel, in Marrakech.
